ADOPT A CLIENT
There is clearly a mental health epidemic in our culture. It would likely not surprise you that many who have mental health issues simply cannot afford mental health counseling.
How do individuals who cannot afford mental health therapy find the help that they so desperately need?
The best way I have found is through scholarships. Generous individuals and businesses give to a non-profit organization that will help pay for the mental health treatment for these clients. This proves to be a win-win for the donor (who receives a tax deduction) and the client (who receives the mental healthcare).
Might you be willing to be one of these donors this year?
WHAT GOES INTO THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT FOR LOW INCOME CLIENTS?
Immediate Issues:
Safety, Suicidality, Physical Health, Daily Functioning, Immediate Distress, etc.
Short-Term Issues: Anxiety, Depression, Relational Unrest, Boundaries, Coping Strategies, Financial Planning, etc.
Mid-Term Issues: Self-Awareness, Relational Awareness, Professional Awareness, Trauma, EMDR, Family Systems, Attachment Styles, Needs/Wants, etc.
Long-Term Issues: Future Planning, Financial Freedom, Rest Protocols, EMDR, Story Work, etc.
A donation buys a client time. The more time that a client has with a therapist, the more can be done for that client.
Any amount is incredibly helpful. Here are a few options and how the amount could help a client:
